Job Description:

The Mount Continuing Care Community is currently seeking Resident Care Workers (RCWs) for our long-term care facility in Charlottetown, PEI. This position reports to the team leader, or Director of Nursing, and assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in our continuing care community.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • Education from a recognized RCW program.
  • Experience is an asset.
  • Ability to work as a team member and ability to meet the physical requirements of the position.
  • A valid criminal record check.
  • Up to date first aid and CPR training.

Main responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Answer call signals; assist residents to the bathroom; supply and empty bed pans; bathe, dress and groom residents; serve meal trays, feed or assist in feeding of residents and assist residents with menu selection; weigh, lift, turn, and position residents; monitor nutritional intake; supervise residents’ exercise routines, set up and provide leisure activities for residents, accompany residents on outside recreational activities and perform other duties related to resident care and comfort.
  • Take residents’ blood pressure, temperature and pulse; report or record fluid intake and output; observe or monitor residents’ status and document resident care on charts; administer first aid in emergency situations; collect specimens such as urine, feces or sputum; administer suppositories.
  • Follow proper resident transfer policies.
  • Make beds and maintain residents’ rooms.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Clean and maintain all medical equipment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Other duties as required.
