Job Description:
Executive Director
Immigrant & Refugee Services Association PEI
The Immigrant & Refugee Services Association PEI (IRSA) is a vibrant non-profit dedicated to supporting newcomers as they build fulfilling lives in Prince Edward Island. Through our short-term settlement services and long-term inclusion programs, we empower immigrants and refugees to become active, connected members of our communities. Our commitment to understanding and meeting our clients’ needs is strengthened by our diverse volunteer Board of Directors and team, which includes recent newcomers who bring firsthand insight to our work. We also contract newcomers for services such as interpretation and translation, further enhancing the inclusivity of our programs.
IRSA is seeking a visionary and compassionate Executive Director to lead our organization in its next chapter.
The Opportunity
As the Executive Director (ED), reporting directly to the Board of Directors, you will guide IRSA’s mission to support newcomers on their journey to community integration. This role oversees all aspects of IRSA’s operations, including program management, finances, and personnel. The ED is also the public face of IRSA, representing our values and objectives to the broader community and spearheading strategic initiatives in collaboration with the Board. Key priorities include advancing our client service standards, strengthening community partnerships, and driving long-term growth in line with IRSA’s vision. This role invites you to bring your passion for inclusion and change where you can make a real difference in the lives of newcomers.
Who You Are
As an ideal candidate, you will be a collaborative and strategic senior leader with experience in the not-for-profit/social services sector, and will be adept in problem-solving under pressure, effective leadership, coaching, and talent development. You are well-versed in navigating funding agreements and government regulations, and can balance day-to-day responsibilities with long-term planning. You will possess empathy and understanding of newcomer and immigrant challenges, along with cultural competence and a proven ability to lead programs. Project management, public speaking, networking skills, and proficiency in additional languages are valuable assets. This role requires a professional who excels at developing and maintaining effective relationships with community partners, government bodies and key stakeholders and who will effectively motivate internal and external teams to achieve outcomes through a collaborative and participative approach.
Qualifications
- A Degree in Human or Social Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
- Minimum of 5 years work experience in a voluntary sector setting, some of which with an equality seeking or advocacy organization.
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a director or administrator of an organization.
IRSA is committed to employment equity and diversity and encourages applications from all qualified candidates including women, people of any sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression; Indigenous peoples; visible minorities and racialized people; people with disabilities and all other equity deserving groups.
