Comptroller

PEI Potato Board

Representing farmers for generations, the PEI Potato Board has a longstanding history representing Prince Edward Island potato growers.  The PEI Potato Board is producer-controlled and comprised of directors from across the province representing the three sectors of the potato industry, including seed, table, and processing.  As these directors are active potato growers, their passion and commitment to the industry is evident.  The PEI Potato Board represents PEI potato growers, working together, to ensure long-term profitability and sustainability through marketing, advocacy, negotiations, and activities to support quality potato production.

The PEI Potato Board is currently seeking a Comptroller.

The Opportunity

Accountable to the General Manager and as a key member of the leadership team, the Comptroller is a diverse and hands-on role in accounting and financial management.  The incumbent oversees key functions such as general ledger, budgeting, payroll, cash management, and internal audits, ensuring accuracy and strong internal controls. The role also includes managing banking deposits and reconciliations and accounts receivable. The Comptroller assists in IT systems management and the management of the market information system, advises on the development of new applications for the Board, and prepares financial reports for leadership. Additionally, they ensure the security of organizational assets and inventory and manage property maintenance.

Who You Are

As an ideal candidate, you possess strong problem-solving, organizational, and multitasking skills and are proficient in Microsoft 365 and Sage accounting systems.  You communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, and work well independently or as part of a team. You thrive under tight deadlines, demonstrate excellent attention to detail and accuracy, and bring a high level of integrity to your work. You are versatile, adaptable, and comfortable handling various tasks in a small office environment as part of a collaborative and highly engaged team. Knowledge of the agriculture or potato industry is a valuable asset.

Qualifications

  • A Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Commerce, or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial planning and analysis or other financial activities.
  • A recognized accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA or CGA) is considered an asset.
