Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures and systems.
- Develop and revise quality control policies and procedures.
- Conduct routine inspections and tests on products or processes to ensure adherence to quality standards; document inspection results and report any deviations or non-conformities (Out of specification)
- Oversee the testing and analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure they meet specifications ensuring testing is accurate and reliable in accordance with internal and regulatory standards.
- Ensure proper storage, handling, and traceability of samples for testing purposes.
- Identify and document defects or deviations from specifications during testing and analysis; Initiate corrective actions in collaboration with other departments, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation of all issues.
- Ensure all testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records of testing activities, results, corrective actions, and any changes made to testing protocols; prepare ad-hoc comprehensive reports for QA and management.
- Supervise and mentor QC technicians and team members, providing guidance and training as needed.
- Ensure the team adheres to all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements while maintaining a high level of performance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction while ensuring product quality is maintained; collaborate with peers to implement meaningful changes to Quality processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in a technical discipline (Microbiology, Food) preferred
- 5+ years of food manufacturing experience in Quality Control roles with 2+ years in a supervisory role.
- Working knowledge of applicable CFIA, HACCP, FDA and SQF requirements.
- Demonstrated understanding of food safety including GMP and HACCP
- Experience with process improvement such as Six Sigma, Lean or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written in English.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products
- Effective time management skills and detail oriented
