Job Description:

Full-time Temporary Position (for approximately 1 year, with possibility of extension)

Reporting to the Manager, Prevention Services, the OH&S Education Consultant is responsible for the development and promotion of illness and injury prevention strategies for Island workplaces covered by the OH&S Act and Regulations.

The Education Consultant is responsible for the delivery of education programs on occupational health and safety to employers, workers, joint health and safety committees, and other relevant stakeholder organizations.  The incumbent is responsible for providing expert advice and recommendations to the Manager of Prevention Services on best practices regarding illness and injury prevention.

The Education Consultant also designs, develops, and evaluates projects and programs as required.

Duties include:

  • educating employers, workers, labour organizations, associations and health and safety committees in illness and injury prevention strategies and workplace health and safety legislation;
  • promoting compliance with, and interpreting the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for management, owners, health and safety committees and program consultants in PEI workplaces;
  • promoting the development and use of healthy and safe practices to workers, their supervisors, employers, labour organizations, and associations through presentations, workshops and education sessions in workplaces;
  • preparing and delivering presentation materials and resources for the annual workplace health and safety conference, workshops, expositions, conventions and public forums;
  • delivering presentations, preparing programs and developing strategies to promote awareness of young worker health and safety issues;
  • researching occupational health and safety information, developments and trends;
  • developing and disseminating health and safety information (e.g. hazard alerts, information updates etc.);
  • researching and making recommendations for organizational injury prevention strategies.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a University degree, preferably in Education, supplemented by considerable experience in program development and facilitation or a certificate in adult education with extensive experience in program development and facilitation.

 

The applicant must have superior communication and facilitation skills.  Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computers in the workplace, including the ability to extract information from a research data base is required.

Knowledge of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, Workers Compensation Act, Youth Employment Act and the Smoke-Free Places Act and regulations pursuant to these Acts would be considered an asset.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be articulated in the application process.

Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.

A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.
