Job Description:

Early Childhood Education:

  • To establish and maintain a creative, child centred play based learning environment that supports the individual learning and overall development of each child, while promoting the development of the group as a whole;
  • To gain an understanding of each child’s learning strengths and challenges, subsequently developing and implementing a responsive early education programming that nurtures the development of children across all key developmental domains;
  • Planning the daily learning activities that meet the specific developmental needs of each child, building on previous learning as well as scaffolding activities to extend learning;
  • Drawing on expertise, training and experience, to utilize strategies that will maximize learning opportunities for children;
  • To observe and document each child’s learning and development through a variety of documentation methods including pictures, learning stories, portfolios etc.

Supporting Parents:

  • Recognizing that parents play the most important role in supporting their child’s learning;
  • To increase parents’ capacity to parent more effectively by encouraging and supporting their strengths, challenges and expertise as parents based on the knowledge of their own child;
  • To facilitate and participate in individual as well as group based parent meetings and information sessions to support the individual learning of the child and extend the child’s learning opportunities to the home environment;
  • To model best practice and nurture positive interactions between parent and child in a way that reinforces the parent’s confidence in their own parenting abilities;
  • To respect parents’ values, attitudes and culture, while supporting them;
  • Ensure positive and open communication with parents as they express their goals and expectations for their child.
