Job Description:

BUILDING/PLANT ASSISTANT
BioFoodTech, Charlottetown, PE

Full-Time, 6 Month Temporary Position (possibility of a 6 month extension)

Commencing Immediately

BioFoodTech is seeking an individual to be responsible for the coordination of thermal processing projects, providing maintenance to the pilot plant equipment and assisting with equipment setup.  The Building/Plant Assistant will report to the Building/Pilot Plant Officer.

Duties will include:

• Thermal Processing responsibilities for the collection of data and evaluation of processing vessels;
• General operation, repairs and maintenance of building and equipment (e.g. temperature monitoring and security systems);
• Analyzing and troubleshooting technical problems on building systems and equipment (e.g. food processing equipment, refrigeration units, laboratory equipment);
• Training staff and clients on how to use and maintain pilot plant equipment;
• Shipping / receiving of materials, samples and equipment;
• ISO 9001 responsibilities, including preparing strategic operating procedures and developing forms and schedules;
• Completing painting requirements in the building;
• Removing snow from sidewalks and loading dock, and salting;
• Maintaining a culture of safety within the organization and remaining current on policies and processes that support client safety;
• Providing back-up for Building/Pilot Plant Officer;
• On-call 24 hours per day, every second week.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma;
• Electrical and boiler training;
• Trained on Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), fall protection and working in confined spaces for work in air ducts;
• Experience (1 – 3  years) in providing maintenance to building systems and food/bio processing equipment;
• Knowledge of building and ventilation systems;
• Ability to troubleshoot equipment independently;
• Strong computer skills;
• Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime.

Other Qualifications:

• Electrical diploma would be considered an asset;
• Certification and experience (1 – 3 years) in Thermal Processing Container Evaluation would be considered an asset.

Salary Range:   $43,779 – $54,723 per year (Level 12, BFT salary scale)
