Job Description:

Indian River Farms (IRF) is looking for a Heavy-Duty Truck Mechanic (Red Seal) to join our team in Kensington.

Responsibilities:

• Performs repairs and assigned preventive maintenance services
• Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
• Perform duties with minimal supervision and in a timely and efficient manner
• Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
• Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
• Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
• Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions
• Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to farm specifications.
• Repair and troubleshoot major components such as engine and transmissions
• Estimate time and material costs on vehicle repairs and requisition new parts
• Maintain a clean and safe work area
• Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures

Qualifications:

• 5 years practical experience with truck maintenance required farm maintenance experience is an asset
• Must possess respective Provincial License such as Red Seal/310T
• Current driver’s license class 1 or class 3 with air brake certification required (or ability to acquire)
• Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, diagnostic equipment, hand, and power tools) required
• Able to work in non-climate-controlled conditions and travel to fields when required
• Good knowledge of computer programs

Physical requirements of this position include the ability to push, pull, drag, and lift items up to 50 pounds, and occasionally must work at shoulder level with equipment weighing up to 25 pounds

Work hours may require overtime and/ or weekends, especially during peak planting and harvesting seasons so must be flexible and dependable
