PEI School Food Program Inc.
Business Description
The PEI Healthy School Food Program is a universally accessible school food program available to all students in public schools across Prince Edward Island. This program was launched by the Government of PEI in September 2020 and the goals were to:
1. Provide healthy and affordable meal options to all students, while using local food whenever possible;
2. Ensure equitable access for all students through a pay-what-you-can model; and
3. Provide food literacy opportunities for all students.
This program is accessible to all students of PEI public schools through diverse food service delivery models. The program ensures all students have access to a healthy, affordable lunch option five days a week by offering “pay-what-you-can” payment model.
The program has transitioned to a newly incorporated non-profit organization, PEI School Food Program Inc. (PEISFP). PEISFP mission is to cultivate a healthy and inclusive food culture in Island schools by creating, developing, and delivering leading healthy school food program. We will also partner on the development and delivery of food literacy curriculum and provide leadership to grow healthy school food environments.
