Job Description:
FULL-TIME TEMPORARY POSITION
(for approximately 2 Years)
The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) helps to build safe and healthy workplaces in PEI and provides benefits and services to reduce the impact of work-related injuries.
The Case Coordinator position utilizes a client centered approach in managing claims of workers who are work disabled due to a workplace injury. The incumbent works with employers, injured workers, and health care providers to assist in achieving a safe and timely return to work using an established work disability prevention model. The Case Coordinator coordinates the activities of internal and external resources, in planning and executing recovery and return to work.
The Case Coordinator interprets and applies WCB legislation, policies, and procedures.
The Case Coordinator reports to the Manager, Work Disability Prevention and Long Term Benefits. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Develops case plans for injured workers based on best practice.
- Coordinates a team effort towards a goal-oriented recovery that prevents unnecessary work disability.
- Interprets and applies WCB legislation, policy, and procedures in relation to determining entitlement to benefits and services and the extent of WCB’s responsibility on claims.
- Communicates with workers, employers, and other stakeholders in a timely manner and in a variety of ways.
- Coordinates access to appropriate services for injured workers.
- Provides clients with information on WCB programs and services, policy, and legislation, and ensures that processes are clear and understood.
- Ensures claim files are up to date and properly documented, and ensures that appropriate rationale is outlined in decisions based on legislation and policy.
- Adheres to established case management standards.
- Collaborates with the leadership team in the development and revision of Claims and Compensation policies and procedures, and plans for the Claims and Compensation Division.
- Works collaboratively and actively participates in service improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a post-secondary degree (preferably in health or social sciences) supplemented by considerable (3 years) experience in a responsible position demonstrating the applicant’s decision-making abilities, analytical and critical thinking skills, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills. Experience working in a client centered team environment, interpreting legislation and policy to or determine entitlement to benefits and experience managing a client case load is preferred.
Applicants must have the proven ability to compose clear and concise communication materials and to do mathematical calculations to determine wage loss benefit.
Knowledge of medical terminology and an ability to interpret medical reports is an asset.
Preferences will be given to internal candidates who meet the above criteria.
Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be articulated in the application process.
Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.
A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.
