Job Description:
We are looking for a Journeyman Carpenter, with 5+ years carpentry experience, who will be responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures in commercial buildings such as office spaces, retail stores, hospitals, and warehouses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine material requirements and project specifications.
- Build, install, and repair frameworks, partitions, doors, windows, drywall, and ceilings in commercial buildings.
- Work with various materials such as wood, steel, concrete, and drywall to create structures.
- Install commercial fixtures such as cabinetry, countertops, and shelving.
- Construct and assemble temporary structures, such as scaffolding and bracing.
- Operate hand and power tools including saws, drills, and nail guns, safely and efficiently.
- Ensure compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and project deadlines.
- Collaborate with foreman, project managers, architects, and other trades to complete projects efficiently.
- Mentoring Apprentice Carpenters.
- Inspect and repair damaged structures and ensure safety and quality in the completed work.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas on job sites, ensuring tools and materials are stored correctly.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in carpentry or construction is preferred.
- Proven experience as a carpenter in commercial construction (7200 – 10800 hours).
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical plans, and drawings.
- Proficiency in using carpentry tools and equipment, including hand tools and power tools.
- Physical stamina to perform tasks such as lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of building codes and safety regulations.
- Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively with other trades and supervisors.
- Basic math skills for accurate measurements and calculations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Red Seal certification in carpentry or a related trade.
- Experience in metal stud framing, drywall hanging, and finish carpentry in commercial environments.
- Knowledge of concrete formwork and structural framing.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift heavy materials (50 lbs or more) regularly.
- Ability to stand, kneel, and bend for extended periods.
- Willingness to work in various environments, including heights, tight spaces, and outdoor conditions.
