Job Description:

Job Summary

The Western Region Sport & Recreation Council (WRSRC) is seeking a passionate and dynamic Youth Engagement Coordinator to develop, implement, and evaluate programs that encourage youth participation in sports, recreation, and wellness activities across Western Region of PEI (North Cape to Miscouche). This role is dedicated to fostering youth engagement, supporting mental well-being, and creating inclusive opportunities for young people to develop physical, social, and life skills through active living.

The ideal candidate is a creative, community-driven individual with experience in youth programming, physical activity promotion, and relationship-building with stakeholders such as schools, community groups, and local municipalities

Duties/Responsibilities

Program Development & Delivery

  • Develop and implement recreational and wellness-based programs specifically targeting youth (ages 12-18), focusing on engagement, inclusion, and mental well-being.
  • Coordinate and deliver “Come Try” events and mentorship opportunities that introduce youth to new sports, activities, and leadership experiences.
  • Work closely with local schools, community groups, and agencies to identify gaps in youth programming and create targeted initiatives that address these needs.
  • Organize after-school programs, summer wellness activities, and community engagement events.
  • Develop and support youth volunteerism opportunities, such as coaching, peer mentorship, and event assistance.

Youth Outreach & Engagement

  • Establish meaningful relationships with youth in the community to understand their interests and barriers to participation.
  • Act as a liaison between WRSRC and schools, community groups, and youth-serving organizations.
  • Lead consultations and surveys to assess youth needs, incorporating feedback into program development.
  • Community Collaboration & Partnership Building
  • Engage with local partners (municipalities, schools, non-profits) to enhance program offerings and increase access to recreational opportunities.
  • Advocate for youth programming in Western PEI and explore ways to increase sustainability and funding opportunities for long-term impact.
  • Promotion, Marketing & Administration
  • Actively promote youth programs through social media, local events, and community networks.
  • Maintain a database of program participation and prepare reports to assess program impact.
  • Assist with grant reporting and evaluation to ensure continued funding and program development.
  • Ensure all programs align with WRSRC’s commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, and mental wellness promotion.

Any other tasks assigned by the Executive Director relating to healthy programming and community and events.

Qualifications & Skills

Education & Experience

  • Degree or diploma in Recreation, Kinesiology, Youth Studies, Social Work, or a related field OR a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience in developing and implementing youth engagement programs.
  • Knowledge of mental wellness principles and how physical activity impacts mental health.
  • Experience working with diverse groups, particularly youth facing barriers to participation.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with community stakeholders.
  • Creative and adaptable approach to youth engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media management.
  • Experience in report writing, data collection, and program evaluation is an asset.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid PEI driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
  • First Aid & CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • High Five Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check (required before hiring).

Work Environment & Expectations

  • The role will require flexible working hours, including some evenings and weekends, to accommodate           youth program schedules.
  • The position is based in Western PEI and requires travel within the region for program delivery and community engagement.
  • The office/home base for this position is located at the O’Leary Access PEI building.
  • While much of the work will be done in the community, there are opportunities to work from home on certain days for administrative tasks, reporting, and planning.
