Cost Accountant

Summary:
The Cost Accountant reports directly to the Financial Controller. Trout River requires a positive, co-operative and motivated individual to be part of our day-to-day operations. This position is for a skilled, hands-on, detail-orientated individual who provides critical support for all functions within the accounting department, with the primary focus being the costing of products and services.
Responsibilities:
- Work with various departments to collect cost information in order to prepare timely and accurate job costing
- Ensure bills of materials are complete, accurate and up to date
- Develop and maintain data collection and validation procedures
- Maintain standard product cost to ensure appropriate allocation of material, labour and overhead
- Review and report on standard versus actual costs deviations
- Establish timely pricing recommendations based on expected job costs
- Perform financial analysis to identify areas of improvement and cost saving opportunities
- Assist with inventory management and reporting
- Assist with month end and year-end financial accounting and reporting
- Support accounting operations including cross-training in other department roles to provide guidance and oversight
- Source government funding including writing proposals and the administration of such projects
- Provide a key role in the ERP implementation including ongoing support
- Participate in various committees including inventory, capital assets, SRED, donation, etc.
- Monitor company policies and procedures and assist with process improvements
- Assist with forecasting and budgeting
- Oversee and analyze cost expenditures
- Provide administrative support to management and other staff as needed
- Other duties/projects as assigned
Requirements:
- Post secondary in Accounting or Finance
- 3+ years of related experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communicative skills
- Strong attention to detail, well-organized, sound judgement
- Proven analytical and problem solving skills
- Proficient with computers with advanced Microsoft Excel abilities
- Strong time management skills
- Aptitude for change and continuous improvements
- High level of integrity and dependability
Wage Range:
$55,000 – $75,000 per year, depending on experience
Hours:
Monday to Friday 8 am to 5 pm (42.50 hours per week)
