Job Description:
The Payroll Officer is a dynamic role within the Public Schools Branch that ensures all Payroll and Benefit transactions are processed accurately and in a timely manner. As a member of the Payroll team, this role requires exceptional accuracy, confidentiality and the ability to work collaboratively with fellow team members, PSB employees, HR, Finance and various levels of management. Key Responsibility:
- Utilizing payroll systems to calculate and process pay for employees in accordance with Collective Agreements and conditions of employment;
- Regularly running and verifying reports, and producing ad hoc reports as required;
- Completing, verifying and recording personnel actions including leave records and ROEs;
- Addressing payroll-related inquiries from employees via email and telephone in a timely and professional manner;
- Establishing, maintaining and updating employee payroll records ensuring all documentation is complete;
- Working closely with HR to properly record and process employee transactions;
- Coding and verifying individual payroll deductions;
- Other related duties;
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in business, accounting or office studies from a recognized post-secondary institution;
- Recent and relevant experience in computer payroll processing (the PSB does not consider time reporting or time keeping being relevant experience for this Payroll job);
- Strong interpersonal (written and oral) and organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines;
- Recent and relevant experience and training in word processing, spreadsheets, and computerized payroll accounting software, database management as well as the demonstrated ability to use the software*;
- Demonstrated knowledge of payroll procedures and CRA regulations;
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to be a self-starter;
Other
- Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft would be considered an asset;
- Completion or In-Progress of obtaining Canadian Payroll Association Certification would be considered an asset;
