Summer Youth Support Worker (2)

The plan is to run this program for the summer months for individuals between the ages of 14 and 18 with cognitive and intellectual disabilities.

Job Title: Youth Support Worker – Youth Transition Program
Location: Baptist Church, 473 Main Street, O’Leary, PE C0B 1V0
Term: June  – August 22nd, 2025 (start date to be decided based on funding)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM (some flexibility may be required)
Reports to: Community Support Manager

Position Summary:
The Youth Support Worker will play a key role in overseeing and delivering the Youth Transition Program – a summer initiative designed to support youth aged 14 to 18 with cognitive and intellectual disabilities as they transition from school to adulthood. This role involves leading structured daily activities that promote independence, social skills, and community engagement in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and engage participants in daily programming, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
  • Facilitate life skills sessions such as cooking, budgeting, personal care, and household tasks.
  • Promote social and communication development through group games, discussions, and roleplay.
  • Coordinate and participate in recreational and community-based activities, including outings and events.
  • Support youth in building self-advocacy and independence, including decision-making and self-expression.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of daily activities, progress notes, and incident reports.
  • Liaise with families, caregivers, and community partners as needed.
  • Assist with transportation needs where applicable and support accessibility accommodations.
  • Collaborate with other staff to ensure the delivery of a high-quality program.

Qualifications:

  • Coursework in Human Services, Youth Work, Disability Support, Education, or a related field.
  • Experience working with youth with intellectual or cognitive disabilities is highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check required.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is necessary.
  • Must be planning on attending school in the fall.
