Job Description:

Early Learning Nutrition Support Role
The Early Learning Nutrition Support staff work collaboratively with Early Childhood Educators and Nutrition staff to deliver high-quality programs for children and their parents/caregivers participating in CHANCES Family Centre. This role is integral to the daily operations of CHANCES Family Centre, ensuring that children receive nutritious snacks and lunches in a supportive environment.

Specific Responsibilities
1. Child Development Programs

  • Foster trusting, respectful, and caring relationships with children and parents/caregivers attending CHANCES Family Centre programs.
  • Guide and assist children in developing proper bathroom, eating, and dressing habits.
  • Encourage children to express emotions verbally and constructively through redirection and positive guidance.
  • Provide opportunities for meaningful social interactions through play-based learning.
  • Model a safe, secure, and engaging learning environment for both children and parents/caregivers.
  • Recognize and utilize challenges as learning opportunities for children and families.

2. Supporting Parents

  • Respect diverse parenting values, attitudes, and approaches.
  • Communicate openly and effectively with parents/caregivers.
  • Offer reassurance and positive support to parents/caregivers who may have difficulty leaving their child.
  • Help all families feel welcome and comfortable within CHANCES Family Centre programs.

3. Staff Support

  • Contribute to a positive and collaborative team environment by using appropriate communication channels to address issues and challenges.
  • Support the Early Childhood and Early Learning Teams by maintaining flexibility in scheduling to ensure the consistent delivery of quality programs.
  • Participate in regular team meetings to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Fully engage in all aspects of the role, including program planning, delivery, and cleanup, to support the overall success of CHANCES Family Centre programs.

4. Kitchen Duties

  • Prepare and serve nutritious snacks and lunches for children in accordance with CHANCES Family Centre guidelines.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and food preparation area.
  • Follow proper food handling, storage, and safety procedures.
  • Ensure all dishes, utensils, and equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized after use.
  • Monitor food inventory and communicate supply needs to the appropriate staff.
  • Assist in planning snack and meal options that align with dietary guidelines and children’s nutritional needs.
