Job Description:

Program Director – Kensington

The Program Director is responsible for ensuring the day-to-day activities of BGC Prince County Kensington run smoothly and efficiently and by ensuring that excellent quality programs are being delivered to our children and youth. They are responsible for human resources activities such as hiring training supervising and scheduling the club staff as well as submitting the staff hours and conducting yearly performance reviews. It is their role to keep track of the wait list enrolled the children in the facility and ensure easy integration for both the children and their families. They are responsible for providing leadership to the overall operations of BGC programs at BGC Prince County Kensington. It is also their role to enforce policies and procedures.

Meeting Children and Youth Needs

The goal of BGC Prince County is to provide a safe, supportive environment where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and life skills.

Program Implementation & Supervision

The Program Director is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of programs, ensuring they align with BGC Canada operating standards and PEI Department of Education Early Learning and Childcare (ELCC) standards.

This will be achieved by:

  • Developing and scheduling programs for BGC Prince County.
  • Providing leadership in delivering high-quality childcare services to staff, children, and parents/guardians.
  • Creating monthly schedules while ensuring appropriate child-to-staff ratios in compliance with ELCC licensing.
  • Ensuring all ELCC licensing regulations are followed to maintain annual renewal.
  • Monitoring and managing program-related expenditures.
  • Managing the waitlist, enrolling children, and ensuring a smooth transition into the program.
  • Assisting with funding applications.
  • Understanding and implementing BGC Prince County service expectations and operational guidelines.
  • Providing direct supervision and serving as the primary point of contact for staff, children, and parents/guardians during programs.
  • Leading weekly program meetings with the Program Department staff.
  • Training staff on setting up program spaces to facilitate daily activities.
  • Scheduling staff appropriately and ensuring adherence to assigned schedules.
  • Providing staff with the necessary support, guidance, and mentorship.
  • Assessing and evaluating programs to ensure effectiveness and quality.

Staff & Volunteer Management

The Program Director is responsible for ensuring that staff and volunteers deliver high-quality programs and services.

This will be achieved by:

  • Supervising and providing leadership to Club staff.
  • Assisting the Director of Operations in conducting annual performance reviews for employees.
  • Participating in the hiring and training of staff and volunteers in collaboration with the Director of Operations.
  • Supporting staff in developing monthly programming that aligns with organizational guidelines and objectives.
  • Increasing public awareness of BGC Prince County Kensington programs and initiatives.
  • Leading and motivating staff and volunteers to create a positive work environment.
  • Managing volunteers and contractors/staff involved in program delivery.
  • Following BGC Prince County human resources policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Ensuring staff receive appropriate training to work effectively with children and youth.

Additional Duties and Requirements

  • Undertaking special projects and other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Collaborating with community groups as needed.
  • Promoting and representing BGC Prince County at community events such as open houses and school functions.
  • Demonstrating strong decision-making, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Managing tasks professionally and efficiently.
  • Implementing policies and procedures effectively.
  • Taking initiative to enhance and improve programs.
  • Performing other duties as required.

Qualifications

  • Education or experience in childcare is an asset.
  • Experience in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • School-Age Child Care Certificate is an asset; willingness and ability to obtain certification are required.
  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Must be available for flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, based on program needs.
