Maintenance Technician

Atlantic Aqua Farms is a successful and growing mussel and oyster aquaculture business primarily based in Prince Edward Island, Canada. Committed to customer service and quality products for 35 years, Atlantic Aqua Farms is North America’s number one grower and processor of the widely recognized, high quality Prince Edward Island Mussels, under the brand name Canadian Cove. The company also farms some of the finest quality Prince Edward Island Oysters, with such brands as Barstool Cocktails, Sweet Island Kiss, Naked Islanders, and Chappell Creek. Atlantic Aqua Farms continues to expand farming and processing operations with its ongoing acquisition activities in Canada and the USA.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance technician will be a key member of the Atlantic Aqua Farms Plant Maintenance team. The Maintenance technician is responsible for repairing and maintaining equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient manner.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Follow all workplace and company safety policies and procedures
  • Learn and follow all AAF policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a “clean as you go” attitude throughout the day.
  • Maintain all required documentation for equipment and maintenance logs.
  • Repair or replace defective machinery parts and fabricate parts required during overhaul, maintenance or set up.
  • Detect and troubleshoot irregularities and malfunctions.
  • Operate grinders, pumps, compressors, fans, blowers, hydraulic systems, and industrial and stationary engines.
  • Maintain Inventory
  • Reports and documents employee safety issues, and equipment deficiencies to a person of authority for corrective action.
  • Participate in safety meetings.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Canadian Citizen, Valid Work Permit or Permanent Resident
  • Must currently live in PEI or willing to relocate.
  • Experience working in Industrial and Commercial Settings
  • Willingness and ability to drive to different locations in PEI to respond to issues related to the plant operations.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, circuit diagrams, and electrical code and project specifications.
  • Ability to design and layout PVC, EMT and galvanized conduit for plant systems.
  • Troubleshoot the existing system and make improvements.
  • Repair, replace distribution equipment and electrical controls such as switchboards, panelboards, and switches.
  • Confidently test and troubleshoot issues.
  • Repair and replace existing equipment
  • Ability to operate hand tools and power tools safely to improve equipment and infrastructure.
  • Flexible throughout the workday to respond to issues in a timely manner.
  • The candidate must have manual dexterity and an attention to detail.
  • Work as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Preference given to candidates who have electrical/mechanical certification.
