Job Description:
Position Summary:
The Native Council of PEI (NCPEI) is an Indigenous non-profit organization for off reserve Indigenous people in Prince Edward Island. The part-time SAFE Coordinator, alongside the full-time SAFE Coordinator, will work with high-risk off-reserve Indigenous families towards building protective factors that lead to healthy families and reduce the number of Indigenous Children in care. The SAFE Coordinator will also develop a coalition of stakeholders to ensure cultural competency training is ingrained within their organizations and frontline workers.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Work closely alongside the full-time SAFE Coordinator.
- Build the protective factors of high-risk Indigenous families involved in or at risk of becoming involved in the Child Welfare System.
- Provide cultural supports and programming to families accessing the SAFE Program.
- Provide advocacy for parents, children, and youth involved in or at risk of becoming involved in the Child Welfare System.
- Provide home visits, parenting classes, and community workshops as needed.
- Facilitate monthly parenting support groups, including a community kitchen, and cultural activity sessions for families accessing the SAFE Program.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Post-secondary education/training in social/human services or youth work; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to collect and organize data and provide written reports.
- Ability to maintain client confidentiality.
- Valid driver’s license and a reliable vehicle.
- Vulnerable record check is required prior to commencement of employment.
