Bilingual Clerk 4 (Admitting / Telecommunications)
Health PEI Location – Prince County Hospital, Summerside
Part-Time (53%) Permanent (IUOE) Position

The successful applicant will be required to carry out hospital procedures to ensure the orderly admission of patients and provide general clerical support in the ER and Surgical Suite Admitting areas of the Admitting Department. The successful applicant will use independent judgement in the interpretation of hospital policies and procedures.
Duties will include but are not limited to the following;
- providing support in the maintenance and control of Ambulatory Care, Emergency, Surgical Suite and inpatient forms;
- providing patient registration through the Clinical Information System (CIS) for various Departments throughout the hospital and providing after hour service to other Hospitals;
- providing cashier services to facilitate 24/7 payments of services not covered by Provincial Medicare;
accepting/registering patient monies for safekeeping; - providing accurate inpatient census;
- management of beds by maintaining admission/discharge/transfer as communicated by physician/nursing.
- maintaining census stats and provides inpatient lists to designated hospital departments;
- retrieving patient files for Health Records;
- operate the text to page system;
- orientate new staff to the department;
- answering phone, handling or redirecting inquiries to appropriate service;
- maintaining patient/information confidentiality;
- other related and allied duties which contribute to the efficient and orderly operation of the Admitting/Telecommunications Department
Minimum Qualifications:
- This is a bilingual position. Advanced oral proficiency in French and English is required
- Applicants must have successful completion of Grade 12 and considerable employment experience involving clerical responsibilities and dealing with the public.
- Applicants must have successful completion of post secondary secretarial / office studies program and successful completion of an approved Medical Terminology Course.
- Typing proficiency at a level of 50 words per minute, net of errors, is required.
- The successful applicant must have a good previous work attendance.
