Using evidence-based practices and specialized expertise in areas such as ergonomics, home modifications, injury prevention, psychological injuries, and return-to-work planning, the role develops recommendations that support functional recovery and work disability prevention. The Occupational Therapist works closely with the Vocational Rehabilitation Coordinator and Training and Development Coordinator, while contributing to the WCB’s mission through collaborative, empathetic, and accountable service to injured workers, employers, and service providers.

The Occupational Therapist reports to the Manager, Enhanced Claims Management. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct functional, ergonomic, workplace, and home assessments to identify barriers and develop evidence-based recommendations.
  • Assess and recommend home modifications, adaptive equipment, and accessibility solutions to support safety and independence.
  • Analyze workplace demands and ergonomic risk factors, including repetitive strain injuries, and recommend practical injury prevention solutions.
  • Provide clinical consultation on psychological injury claims, workplace reintegration, and complex return-to-work planning.
  • Collaborate with workers, employers, healthcare providers, and internal stakeholders to develop sustainable return-to-work and accommodation strategies.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and provide expert interpretation of medical and functional information.
  • Support work disability prevention initiatives through employer education, workplace assessments, and injury prevention strategies.
  • Deliver education and training to internal staff, employers, healthcare providers, and industry stakeholders.
  • Contribute to policy, program, and service improvements by identifying trends, recommending enhancements, and supporting evidence-based practices.
  • Performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a master’s degree in occupational therapy from a recognized university, supplemented by considerable (3-5 year) related clinical experience in a position(s) demonstrating the applicant’s decision-making ability and problem-solving abilities, analytical and critical thinking, interpersonal, conflict resolution and oral and written communication skills. Experience working in a client-centred professional team environment with responsibility for interpreting legislation and policy, as well as demonstrated ability to manage a client case load is preferred. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.

Applicants must have a membership with the PEI College of Occupational Therapists and the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (including a minimum of $5 million in professional liability insurance), as well as maintaining continued education hours for registration and a working knowledge of national and provincial accessibility standards. Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.

Preference will be given to internal candidates.

The Workers Compensation Board is committed to providing a safe, healthy, and inclusive work environment for all employees.

We would like to thank all applicants for their interest; however, only those who are selected for an interview will be contacted.
