(2) FULL-TIME TEMPORARY POSITIONS

(for approximately 1 year, with possible extension)

The Workers Compensation Board (WCB) helps to build safe and healthy workplaces in PEI and provides benefits and services to reduce the impact of work-related injuries.

The LTB Case Coordinator utilizes a client centered approach in managing claims and determining entitlement to compensation of injured workers on Extended Wage Loss (EWL) benefits, Pension, Survivor or in receipt of Health Care Benefits. The incumbent is one of the primary contacts for the long term benefits stakeholders and must ensure effective communication.  The LTB Case Coordinator must exercise a duty to care by understanding the importance of providing accurate information and ensuring that the worker is aware of relevant provisions of workers compensation legislation or Workers Compensation Board policies.

The LTB Case Coordinator interprets and applies Workers Compensation Board legislation, policies and procedures.

The LTB Case Coordinator reports to the Manager, Long Term Benefits. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively manages claims by communicating with internal and external stakeholders in a variety of ways.
  • Coordinates and provides direction for appropriate services for claims where a worker is in receipt of Health Care Benefits or EWL Benefits or Pension.
  • Develops detailed case plans for injured workers based on best practice.
  • Interprets and applies WCB legislation, policy and procedures in relation to determining entitlement to wage loss and health care benefits and services and the extent of WCB’s responsibility on claims.
  • Provides workers with accurate detailed information on Board programs and services, policy and legislation, and ensuring that processes are clear and understood.
  • Ensures claim files are up to date, summarized and complete, and ensuring that documentation of reasoned decisions, including rationale to support weighing of evidence is on file.
  • Drafts decision letters outlining what is approved or denied with sound rationale and the use of applicable policies and legislation.
  • Adheres to established case management standards.
  • Works together and actively participates in service improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to provide clear direction to LTB Benefit Administrators.
  • Assists with the Annuity Program, EWL 36 & 24 month reviews, closing EWL claims for wage loss benefits at age 65 and preparing and processing of Pension Replacement Benefits.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a post-secondary degree (preferably in health or social sciences) supplemented by considerable (3 years) experience in a responsible position demonstrating the applicant’s decision making abilities, analytical and critical thinking skills, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.  Experience working in a client centered team environment with responsibility for interpreting legislation and policy and/or determining entitlement; as well as demonstrated ability to manage a client case load is preferred.

Applicants must have the proven ability to compose clear and concise communication materials and to do mathematical calculations to determine wage loss benefit.

A sound knowledge of medical terminology and an ability to interpret medical reports is an asset.

Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered and must be articulated in the application process.

Bilingual in both French and English would be considered an asset.

A satisfactory criminal records check is required for this position.
