The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Finance to join our leadership team and play a key role in supporting the long-term success of a family-owned enterprise. This individual will balance strong financial discipline with a practical, hands-on approach, ensuring the business remains financially sound while supporting future growth.

The ideal candidate is a thoughtful finance leader who values stability, integrity, and partnership, and who is comfortable working closely with ownership and operations in an inventory- and seasonality-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership & Stewardship

  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to ownership and senior leadership
  • Provide clear, practical financial insights to support long-term decision-making
  • Help align day-to-day operations with the companyโ€™s long-term vision and values

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning
  • Deliver timely and accurate financial reporting with clear explanations for non-financial stakeholders
  • Analyze profitability across seed varieties, equipment lines, parts, and services

Cash Flow & Working Capital Management

  • Manage cash flow through highly seasonal sales cycles
  • Oversee inventory financing, customer credit, and collections
  • Maintain strong banking and lender relationships

Accounting, Controls & Compliance

  • Ensure accurate financial records and compliance with accounting standards
  • Maintain strong internal controls while keeping systems practical and efficient
  • Oversee audits, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and insurance coordination

Inventory & Cost Management

  • Lead inventory and cost accounting for seed production and equipment
  • Monitor obsolescence, write-offs, and margin performance
  • Partner with operations and sales to improve inventory turns and profitability

Team Leadership

  • Lead the organization and mentor a dedicated finance team
  • Establish scalable processes that support growth without unnecessary complexity
  • Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Experience

  • CPA, CA, CMA, or equivalent designation preferred
  • 8+ years of progressive finance leadership experience
  • Experience in seeds, equipment, and distribution businesses
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory valuation, and seasonal cash flow
  • Experience working in or alongside family-owned or closely held businesses is an asset
  • Financial systems experience
