Position:                             Park Maintenance Labourer (Canada Summer Jobs)
Type:                                  Summer Student – 12 weeks
Reports to:                         Infrastructure Superintendent
Salary Range:                    $18.00 per hour
Work Hours:                      40 hours per week (June – August)

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment; be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a person granted refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of employment; be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with applicable provincial or territorial legislation and regulations; and have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment.

The Park Maintenance Labourer – Summer Student, reports to the Infrastructure Superintendent and supports the daily operations of the Town’s Infrastructure Department through assisting with routine maintenance tasks, performing general labour duties, and helping ensure municipal facilities, parks, and public spaces remain safe, clean, and well-maintained. The position provides hands-on experience in infrastructure services and contributes to the efficient delivery of municipal operations throughout the summer season.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform routine maintenance of sidewalks, trails, parks, ball fields, and municipal facilities to ensure safe, clean, and accessible public spaces.
  • Assist with minor repairs and upkeep of equipment and infrastructure.
  • Support groundskeeping activities, including mowing, trimming, and grass planting.
  • Coordinate the pickup and delivery of tools, materials, and supplies for maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in inspections of indoor and outdoor facilities to identify maintenance needs.
  • Complete assigned tasks independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Assist with the setup, support, and teardown of municipal events and community activities including Canada Day, PRIDE celebrations, and Fall Fest preparations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Basic knowledge of maintenance, landscaping, and safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality work.
  • Strong communication skills and a reliable, positive work ethic.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing tasks and support community events.
