Salary Range: Level 5 (Technician I) – Entry/Intermediate ($26.13 – $30.27)
Level 7 (Technician II) – Senior ($29.85 – $34.58)
Work Hours: 40 hours per week (with on-call rotation as required)

We are seeking a skilled Infrastructure Technician to join our Public Works and Utilities team. The successful candidate may be hired as Technician I or Technician II based on experience and qualifications.
JOB SUMMARY
The Infrastructure Technician supports the operation, inspection, and maintenance of the Town’s public works and utility infrastructure, including water distribution and wastewater systems, as well as related facilities and equipment. The role includes both preventative maintenance and emergency response to ensure reliable service delivery to residents and utility customers.
The position requires strong technical ability, attention to detail, and the capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a physically demanding, fast-paced environment. Placement at Technician I or II depends on experience, certification, and demonstrated knowledge of municipal utility systems, with Technician II requiring more advanced qualifications and operational experience.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate, inspect, and maintain utility systems including lift stations, collection systems, wells, distribution systems, and reservoirs; maintain accurate records
- Collect and submit weekly water samples for analysis
- Inspect and approve new utility connections per standards and regulations
- Prepare reports, drawings, and infrastructure records
- Support preventative maintenance programs and emergency repairs
- Assist with contractor oversight and capital projects
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment
- Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours and weekend emergencies
- Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a physically demanding environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accurate record-keeping abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills when interacting with staff, contractors, and the public.
- Demonstrates initiative, reliability, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Commitment to safety standards and procedures, including confined space protocols.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Grade 12 or equivalent; must be bondable
- Utility certifications considered an asset (Technician I: Level I Water/Wastewater or willingness to obtain; Technician II: Class II/Level II certifications)
- Minimum 2 years related experience (more required for Technician II consideration)
- Knowledge of environmental and safety legislation
- Mechanical and electrical systems experience
- Class III PEI Driver’s License with clean abstract considered an asset
- SCADA, PLC, AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Office experience an asset
- Willingness to join the Maritime Provinces Water and Wastewater Association
