Job Description:

Position Summary:
The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and engaging environment for children. The ECE supports children’s development through play, learning opportunities, positive interactions, and responsive care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide active and attentive supervision of children at all times.
  • Ensure children’s safety and well-being throughout the day.
  • Plan and participate in age-appropriate activities and learning experiences.
  • Support children’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Provide assistance with meals, toileting, diapering, dressing, and other personal care needs.
  • Use positive and respectful guidance when supporting children’s behaviour.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom and play environment.
  • Communicate professionally with children, families, coworkers, and management.
  • Complete required attendance, incident, and daily documentation.
  • Follow all centre policies, procedures, health and safety practices, and PEI childcare regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with other educators and support staff.
  • Report concerns regarding children’s health, safety, behaviour, or development to management.
  • Attend required staff meetings, training, and professional development.

  • Remain engaged and present with the children while working.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Be dependable, punctual, and prepared for each shift.
  • Treat all children, families, and coworkers with respect and professionalism.
  • Use safe, appropriate, and developmentally appropriate interactions with children.

Qualifications

  • ECE certification recognized by the Province of Prince Edward Island.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification as required.
  • Required criminal record/vulnerable sector and child abuse registry checks.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • A genuine interest in supporting children’s learning and development.
