Branch Location: Any branch, PEI

As a Credit Risk Specialist I, you will play a key role in supporting responsible lending by reviewing and adjudicating personal credit applications that exceed branch lending limits or fall outside standard guidelines. Working closely with branch teams, you will assess credit risk, analyze financial information, and make sound lending decisions that balance Member needs with the credit union’s risk tolerance.

What You’ll Do:

  • Review and adjudicate personal credit applications submitted by branch staff that exceed lending limits or fall outside standard guidelines.
  • Assess unauthorized overdraft requests and provide credit decisions within delegated authority.
  • Review personal mortgage applications from external mortgage brokers to ensure consistency across the branch network.
  • Analyze income documentation, credit bureau reports, and financial information to determine creditworthiness.
  • Identify potential credit risks and ensure lending decisions align with Provincial Credit Union policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide clear documentation and rationale for credit decisions.
  • Collaborate with lenders and branch managers to gather additional information and support effective lending decisions.
  • Monitor lending activity to help identify risk trends within the personal loan portfolio.
  • Contribute to policy development, internal audits, and post-funding loan reviews as needed.

What You Bring:

Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in financial services with a focus on credit analysis and lending decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field is considered an asset.
  • Experience reviewing and adjudicating personal lending or mortgage applications as well as managing or supporting credit risk within a loan portfolio is considered an asset.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and make sound lending decisions.
  • Ability to analyze financial information, identify trends, and interpret credit bureau data.
  • Strong attention to detail and sound judgment when working with complex or sensitive information.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to build strong relationships with branch teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain credit decisions effectively.
  • Strong customer service orientation, supporting both internal teams and external partners.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
