Hourly Wage:ย $23.15 per hour plus 4% vacation and 4% stat holiday pay. Weekly hours 37.5

Description
Basin Head Fisheries Museum is seeking a Historic Site Guide/Interpreter to assist with its summer programming, with a specific focus on interpreting the marine protected area (MPA) located at Basin Head. We are continuing to take on the responsibility for the MPA interpretation as well as further developing and streamlining this new resource.
Duties
- Delivering daily tours of the MPA that cover several stations, including the Fisheries Museum, the beach, and the wharf/lagoon area.
- Identifying and implementing improvements to the tour through research, as well as practical experience from delivering the tour.
- Melding human and natural history by collaborating to identify and implement the increase of cultural content into the MPA tour. This will include Mi’kmaq, French and Celtic lore and perspectives.
- Continuing and expanding the PEI Museum’s experiential tourism offerings.
- Delivering professional quality interpretation and programming related to the MPA and Basin Head, including but not limited to fishing, aquaculture and natural history.
- Assisting with tours, programs and activities within the museum and around the site outside of scheduled MPA tours.
- Mentoring younger and less experienced summer staff and training others on tour delivery.
- Providing education, interpretation and public programming to visitors by recreating an accurate account of the history and current state of the MPA.
- Operating the Museum’s Point-Of-Sale system to accept payment for visitors to the Site.
- Welcoming visitors to the site, leading tours, and explaining the historic significance of buildings, displays housed therein and the surrounding natural setting.
- Assisting with special events and programs.
- Collaborating with community members, researchers, PEI Museum staff and other partners to collect and organize additional information for the MPA tour.
- Provide guided educational tours and programs for school-aged children.
- Assisting with office work or projects to complete when not giving tours.
- Completing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will have education and experience in history, biology, museum interpretation or customer service.
- Must have strong research skills and be able to communicate effectively.
- Must be able to attend to tour groups, be active for extended periods and be capable of moving across uneven or difficult terrain.
- Must have a background in customer service and experience in public speaking or interpretation.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision, but also engage with colleagues as operations require.
- Program development, research experience and experience working with a team would be considered an asset
- Previous museum-based program experience.
- Valid First Aid/CPR training.
- Bilingualism would be considered an asset.
