Job Description:

O’Connor Glass Ltd. is looking to hire a Draftsperson.

The Draftsperson is responsible for preparing architectural aluminum drawings using AutoCAD and ensuring that all design and shop drawings conform to project specifications. The successful candidate should have strong AutoCAD skills, excellent attention to detail, and a solid understanding of architectural drawings and construction practices.

Job Duties

  • Prepare project designs and design proposals using Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software and traditional drafting methods when required.
  • Read and interpret architectural drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Prepare detailed shop drawings with accurate and clearly labelled measurements, materials, and finishes.
  • Collaborate with external engineering partners, project managers, contractors, and other personnel to resolve design challenges and update working drawings as required, including revisions based on site measurements.
  • Prepare and review rough sketches and develop them into accurate final shop drawings for production.
  • Apply knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and construction technology to identify and resolve design issues.
  • Prepare complete documentation packages for engineers, project managers, and project leads.
  • Work with suppliers, product development, and project teams to identify practical and manufacturable solutions.
  • Ensure final designs comply with applicable regulations, project specifications, and quality standards.
  • Maintain current knowledge of National and Provincial building codes.

Project Management Support

  • Assist the Project Manager with various aspects of project coordination, including:
  • Verifying site conditions and site measurements.
  • Following up with suppliers regarding orders and lead times.
  • Assisting with change order requests.
  • Following up with customers and contractors regarding project schedules.
  • Assisting with project management and administrative tasks.
  • Performing other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Post-secondary diploma in drafting, architecture, architectural technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and detailed technical instructions.
  • Working knowledge of Canadian building codes.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze issues of varying complexity and determine an appropriate course of action.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

This is a full-time position. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
