Job Description:

Serving the hardware and building supply needs of residents of Souris and surrounding areas, Main Street Home Hardware and Building Centre is known for our exceptional customer service.

We are seeking a Full-Time Seasonal Building Supplies Counter Salesperson to join our team. This position is available immediately, with employment running annually from May through October.

Job Summary
The Building Supplies Counter Salesperson is responsible for providing knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient service to customers purchasing building materials and related products. This role involves assisting contractors and retail customers at the sales counter, processing orders, and ensuring accurate product selection while supporting overall store operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet customers promptly and provide courteous, professional service at the sales counter
  • Assist customers in selecting building materials, hardware, and related products
  • Prepare sales orders, quotes, invoices, and returns accurately using the point-of-sale system
  • Answer customer questions regarding product specifications, availability, pricing, and basic applications
  • Communicate with yard staff and delivery drivers to coordinate order fulfillment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked counter area
  • Handle cash, debit, credit, and account transactions accurately
  • Resolve customer concerns or refer issues to management as appropriate
  • Follow company policies, safety procedures, and loss-prevention practices

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous experience in retail sales or customer service preferred
  • Knowledge of building materials, lumber, hardware, or construction products is an asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
  • Basic computer skills and experience with POS systems
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
  • Comfortable working in a building supply or warehouse environment

Shift Availability

  • Must be available to work early mornings, and days, Monday thru Saturday.
