Overview
JMC is pleased to partner with the Tignish Co-op in recruiting its nextย General Manager.

The Tignish Co-op is a well-established, member-owned organization serving the West Prince region for over 85 years. With multiple business lines spanning grocery, home hardware and building supplies, fuel operations, and commercial assets, the Co-op plays a critical role in the local economy and community.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the General Manager is responsible for the organization’s overall leadership and performance. This includes executing on strategic direction, overseeing multi-site operations, ensuring financial sustainability, and leading a team across diverse business units. This is a senior leadership role requiring a balance of operational execution, financial oversight, and strong stakeholder management.

Key Responsibilities
Board and Governance

  • Partner with the Board of Directors to support the development and execution of strategic priorities
  • Provide regular reporting on operational and financial performance
  • Translate Board direction into actionable plans and ensure consistent follow-through
  • Support effective governance through clear communication and informed decision-making

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day operations across multiple locations and business lines
  • Ensure consistency in processes, standards, and service delivery
  • Monitor performance and implement improvements to drive efficiency and results
  • Oversee facilities, infrastructure, and operational resources

Financial Management

  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities
  • Monitor financial performance and ensure alignment with targets
  • Ensure strong financial controls, reporting accuracy, and fiscal responsibility
  • Identify and address financial risks and opportunities

People Leadership

  • Lead, develop, and support a team across multiple departments and locations
  • Oversee recruitment, performance management, and employee development
  • Establish clear expectations and ensure accountability across the organization
  • Address performance issues and build overall team capability

Member and Community Engagement

  • Maintain strong relationships with members and the broader community
  • Support communication and engagement initiatives with the membership
  • Ensure a high level of service and responsiveness across all business areas

Business Improvement and Growth

  • Identify opportunities to improve operations and enhance performance
  • Evaluate business initiatives and present recommendations to the Board
  • Lead change initiatives and support the ongoing evolution of the organization

Experience and Education

  • Proven leadership experience in a senior operational role, ideally within retail, multi-site operations, or a related environment
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience managing budgets and interpreting financial results
  • Experience working with or reporting to a Board of Directors is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage performance, and build organizational capability
  • Experience operating in a complex, multi-faceted business environment
  • Strong communication and relationship management skills
  • Post-secondary education in business, management, or a related field is preferred
