Quality Control Supervisor

Location: Charlottetown, PEI

Employment Type: Permanent, Full Time

Reports To: Quality Manager

Salary Range: Compensation commensurate with education and experience, range $65,000-$75,000 plus bonus

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented QC Supervisor to oversee the testing and analysis of raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products to ensure they meet established specifications. The ideal candidate will identify defects, ensure the proper calibration of testing equipment, and maintain accurate documentation of test results and corrective actions. The QC Supervisor will play a crucial role in maintaining the quality standards of our products and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Floor Oversight & Production Support

  • Provide active, hands-on supervision on the manufacturing floor during all production shifts.
  • Monitor critical control points in all facets of the manufacturing process.
  • Ensure adherence to Batch Production Records (BPRs) and immediately address Quality Events.
  • Ensure allergen control and cross-contamination prevention protocols are followed.

Team Leadership & Supervision

  • Supervise, train, and mentor a team of QC Technicians.
  • Assign daily tasks, including in-process testing, environmental monitoring, and finished product inspections.
  • Review technicians’ documentation for accuracy and completeness.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching.
  • Ensure proper staffing coverage across shifts.

In-Process & Finished Product Testing

  • Oversee sampling and testing of raw materials and finished products.
  • Monitor critical quality attributes including: brix and moisture content, pH levels, gummy weight and dimensional consistency, sensory attributes (texture, color, appearance), metal detection and packaging integrity.
  • Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs).
  • Place materials or products on hold when specifications are not met.
  • Ensure proper storage, handling, and traceability of samples for testing purposes.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Ensure compliance with all Natural Health Product regulations for dietary supplements (Health Canada Natural Health Product Regulations, 21 CFR Part 111, etc.)
  • Develop and revise quality control policies and procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits (FDA, third-party, customer).
  • Review batch records and Quality Event investigations.
  • Support root cause investigations and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).
  • Assist in ensuring equipment used for manufacturing and quality testing is maintained in a qualified and validated state.

Continuous Improvement & Food Safety

  • Collaborate with QA and Production leadership to identify process improvements.
  • Analyze quality trends and implement preventive controls.
  • Support environmental monitoring and sanitation verification programs.
  • Promote a strong quality and food safety culture on the manufacturing floor.
  • Identify and document defects or deviations from specifications during testing and analysis; Initiate corrective actions in collaboration with other departments, ensuring timely resolution and proper documentation of all issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of testing activities, results, corrective actions, and any changes made to testing protocols; prepare ad-hoc comprehensive reports for QA and management.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost reduction while ensuring product quality is maintained; collaborate with peers to implement meaningful changes to Quality processes.
  • Other duties, as required.

Qualifications

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, Life Science or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of quality control experience in dietary supplements, food, confectionery, or pharmaceutical manufacturing.
  • Minimum 1–2 years of supervisory or team lead experience.

Technical Skills

  • Working knowledge of applicable CFIA, HACCP, FDA and SQF requirements is preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of food safety including GMP and HACCP.
  • Experience with process improvement such as Six Sigma, Lean or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products.
