What’s the Job?

As a Counselling Support Worker, you will find yourself supporting IRSA clients in a variety of ways.

  • Primarily, one on one counselling assessment and support, interventions, referrals and follow ups with clients, will be regular tasks. You will be asked to provide external navigation support, with outreach to organizations, community groups, and stakeholders that help clear the way for positive client health outcomes and in time, empower them to independently solve and help meet their health needs.
  • You will also help develop, and deliver, group sessions, workshops and orientation for a variety of topics, such as parenting, preventative programming, and service availability locally, to help participants increase their support networks.
  • You may be asked to represent IRSA on relevant committees or boards and are expected to be a strong client advocate in role.

This role collaborates across departments to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to promote IRSA’s vision, mission and core values.

What skills or qualifications will help me succeed?

We require that you have a post-secondary degree or diploma in Psychology or a related discipline, with a minimum of 1-year experience in role (or an equivalent combination of education, training and work experience)

The following list of skills would also be considered assets:

  • Experience and understanding of Trauma Informed Care for our vulnerable clients.
  • Demonstrates a high level of empathy and cultural competence
  • Proficient in MS Office and spreadsheet applications, with working knowledge of client management software.
  • Highly organized with excellent time management skills and willing to take initiative, capable of prioritizing and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse team.
  • Previous experience working with immigrant or refugee populations would be considered an asset.
