Job Description:

FitzGerald and Snow (2010) Ltd. is a leader in the construction industry on Prince Edward Island and we are looking for the right individual to strengthen our site team at our Charlottetown office.

Position Overview

The Construction Surveyor performs site layout and control surveys to support accurate, efficient construction execution – establishing lines, grades, and elevations for foundations, sitework, and structures across our projects. This is primarily a field-based, seasonal role, with fieldwork concentrated over roughly 8 months of the year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform site layout and control surveys, including staking lines, grades, and elevations for foundations, structures, and sitework
  • Provide topographic and cross-section surveys for planning and cut/fill quantities
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and site plans to complete accurate layout
  • Operate and maintain survey equipment (total stations, GPS/GNSS receivers, robotic instruments, laser levels)
  • Process field survey data and prepare as-built drawings using CAD/Carlson survey software
  • Import, manage, and implement survey data to support construction layout and use by site crews
  • Prepare and maintain survey records, field notes, and as-built documentation
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, and foremen to confirm layout requirements and resolve field discrepancies
  • Support quality control by verifying work is constructed to line, grade, and design specifications
  • Maintain calibration and proper working condition of all survey instruments

Qualifications

  • Survey Technician diploma, Civil Engineering Technology diploma, or equivalent field experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in construction/site surveying; experience with Trimble or similar total station/GPS equipment preferred
  • Experience with CAD/Carlson survey software preferred
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and specifications
  • Ability to self-direct work and manage tasks independently with minimal supervision
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in fieldwork
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel between job sites
  • Willingness to take on other tasks during the winter months is an asset, as survey fieldwork is largely seasonal
