Casual Day Camp Counsellor
The City of Charlottetown Parks & Recreation Department is seeking enthusiastic and responsible Day Camp Counsellors to support the operation of its summer day camps for children ages 5–12. Working as part of a small team, you’ll help deliver fun, safe, and engaging programming that encourages creativity, teamwork, and personal growth.
The department operates two summer day camps, and day camp counsellors play a key role in organizing activities, supervising participants, and creating a welcoming environment where children can thrive.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in training offered by the Parks and Recreation Department.
- Supervises children at all times and ensures their health, safety, and well-being by following established camp procedures, safety guidelines, and emergency protocols.
- Assist in planning and delivering weekly schedules, including a wide variety of activities and special events that accommodate different ages and individual needs.
- Prepare and provide two healthy snacks daily for participants.
- Maintains a clean, safe and organized camp environment.
- Actively lead and participate in all camp activities.
- Maintain appropriate order and discipline to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with participants, parents/guardians, and fellow staff.
- Document and report any accidents or injuries involving participants to the Day Camp Supervisor.
- Assists the Day Camp Supervisor with a final report which will include a summary of activities, recommendations, issues/concerns.
- Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children in a group setting.
- Previous experience supervising children and delivering age-appropriate programs or activities.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- At least one year of post-secondary education is considered an asset.
- Current CPR and Basic First Aid certification.
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
WORK TERM: June 22, 2026, to August 28, 2026
HOURS OF WORK: 45 hours/week, Monday-Friday between the hours of 7:30 AM-5:30 PM.
SALARY: Non-Union, $19.00 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay)
