CHANCES is seeking a Pedagogical Support Staff member to assist in the delivery of our early childhood programs. This role supports early childhood educators by allowing them time to observe, document, and plan for individual children’s needs while ensuring programs align with the PEI Early Learning Framework. Pedagogical Support Staff also contribute to mentoring less experienced educators and supporting parents/caregivers in the program.
Key Responsibilities:
Child Development Programs:
- Establish and maintain a child-centered learning environment that supports social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Build trusting, respectful relationships with children and parents/caregivers.
- Follow daily lesson plans provided by the supervising educator.
- Prepare and facilitate daily activities, including storytelling, songs, arts and crafts, free play, and dramatic play.
- Guide children in developing proper bathroom, eating, and dressing habits.
- Support children in expressing emotions verbally and appropriately.
- Monitor and observe children’s progress to help adapt programs to their needs.
- Encourage social interactions through play-based learning and model safe, creative learning environments.
- Recognize challenges as learning opportunities for children and families.
Supporting Parents/Caregivers:
- Respect parents’ values and approaches to parenting.
- Communicate openly and effectively with parents/caregivers.
- Share information and support parents in relation to their child’s development.
- Positively assist families during difficult transitions, such as separation from their child.
- Engage parents in program activities and welcome new families to CHANCES programs.
Staff Support:
- Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Support early childhood educators and early learning teams with flexible scheduling.
- Participate in team meetings and planning sessions.
- Engage fully in all aspects of program delivery, including preparation and clean-up.
- Cover staff ratios as needed during absences.
Qualifications:
- Certificate in Early Childhood Education;
- Experience in setting up environments and experiences for ages 2-11 year olds;
- Knowledge of the PEI Early Learning Framework;
- Current First Aid and CPR
