Job Description:

The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is nation-wide leader and champion for mental health. CMHA facilitates access to the resources people require to maintain and improve mental health and community integration, build resilience, and support recovery from mental illness.

The PEI Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association requires the services of a qualified individual to work as a Summer Student -Mental Health Worker at our  Alberton site.

CMHA Clubhouse is a psychosocial rehabilitation center for adults living with mental illness. Our Clubhouses believes that the focus should be on the strengths of all individuals and on mental wellness, and not mental illness.

This is a for one (1) Full-Time Employment (FTE) student contract position ending on August 28, 2026.

Pay: $ 18/hour for 37.5 hours per week

Job Summary:

  • Creates and facilitates activities for clients that promote wellness and independent living skills
  • Assists in providing navigation supports to community members in-person and by phone
  • Monitors the safety and the security of members and take appropriate action and report accordingly any issues.
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Provide reception for CMHA PEI’s office in  Summerside
  • Assists in the cleaning and sanitation of Clubhouse
  • Performs other tasks as needed

Requirements:

  • Must be between the ages of 18-30 at the start date
  • Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or someone  who has been officially given refugee protection in Canada and be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment

You are NOT eligible if you are :

  • An International Student (in Canada temporarily  for school and not a citizen, permanent resident, or refugee in Canada)
  • Waiting for a refugee decision, or if you only have a visitor visa, youth visa, or work visa

 Education:

  • Grade 12 High School Diploma or GED

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to do some lifting up to 20 lbs.
  • Must be able to work within close proximity to co-workers, clients/ members
  • Must be able to  stand, walk, and  sit for extended period of time
  • Must be able to stoop, kneel, bend, and crouch
  • Must be able to climb stairs
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to work indoor and outdoor for activities/programming with co-workers, clients/members

Other Requirements:

  • A satisfactory and current criminal records  and vulnerable sector check

An asset to this position is a solid knowledge, sensitivity, and relevant work experience relating to the issues of mental health and addictions.

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week. Some evening work maybe required
