Job Description:

MICROBIOLOGY LAB TECHNOLOGIST

Location: 101 Belvedere Ave, Charlottetown

Position: One (1) Full-Time Position Commencing Immediately for One (1) Year

Hourly Salary Range: $27.56 – $34.45

Annual Salary Range: $53,734 – $67,170

Pay Level: 13 (BFT Pay Scale)

Biweekly Hours: 75.0 (Monday to Friday and weekends as required)

Reporting to the Manager of Laboratory Services, this position is responsible for processing samples in accordance with established procedures, maintaining records and ensuring effective laboratory services.

Duties will include:

  • Receiving samples and ensuring all information is accurately recorded;
  • Conducting analysis, ensuring the latest version for the method is used and that all media and reagents are available;
  • Preparing accurate reports for samples in a timely manner;
  • Assisting clients with completion of Sample Submission forms and coordinating receipt of samples;
  • Ensuring all activities are conducted in compliance with Standards Council of Canada and ISO 17025:2017;
  • Participating in proficiency tests as a part of the laboratory’s accreditation certification;
  • Monitoring and maintaining records for all equipment and performing any necessary maintenance;
  • Participating in internal and external lab audits;
  • Maintaining lab in good working order including routine sanitizing and disinfecting;
  • Assisting on a routine basis, in the review of all methods currently in use, for their validity to ensure that they are still performing to specifications; and
  • Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must have a diploma or degree in Biology or Microbiology from a recognized post-secondary institution;
  • A strong commitment to customer service is essential as well as the ability to work well both independently and in a highly collaborative team environment;
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities is crucial;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Other Qualifications:

  • Experience in a microbiology or similar lab considered an asset;
  • Completion of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) training course, considered an asset;
