Executive Director (1-Year Contract – Maternity Leave)

BGC Charlottetown – Charlottetown, PEI

BGC Charlottetown is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing high-quality programs and services that support children, youth, and families in our community. We create safe, supportive spaces where young people can learn, grow, and build positive futures.

We are seeking an Executive Director (1-year contract) to provide leadership continuity during a maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic leader to guide the organization through ongoing operations while continuing to strengthen community impact.

About the Role

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational management of BGC Charlottetown. This includes oversight of programs, staff, finances, partnerships, and community engagement.

This role requires a collaborative and hands-on leader who can maintain operational excellence while supporting ongoing growth, sustainability, and strong community relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Provide leadership aligned with BGC Charlottetown’s mission, vision, and strategic priorities
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors to support governance and organizational direction
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing organizational culture
  • Act as a key spokesperson and ambassador in the community

Operations & Program Oversight

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization, ensuring effective and efficient service delivery
  • Ensure programs meet community needs and align with BGC Canada standards
  • Monitor program quality, outcomes, and continuous improvement initiatives

Financial Management & Fund Development

  • Manage organizational budget, financial planning, and reporting
  • Ensure sound financial controls, policies, and compliance
  • Lead fundraising efforts, including grants, donor relations, and community partnerships
  • Maintain and grow relationships with funders and stakeholders

Human Resources

  • Lead, coach, and support staff and volunteers
  • Oversee recruitment, performance management, and professional development
  • Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive workplace environment

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, government, and stakeholders
  • Represent BGC Charlottetown at events and within the broader nonprofit sector
  • Support communications and public relations efforts to enhance visibility and impact

Governance & Board Relations

  • Support the Board of Directors with reporting, planning, and decision-making
  • Attend Board and committee meetings and provide regular updates
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational requirements

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum 3–5 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment
  • Demonstrated experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Strong financial management and budgeting experience
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor engagement
  • Excellent leadership, team development, and relationship-building skills
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Knowledge of community-based programming for children and youth is an asset
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and community engagement

Compensation and Benefits
