  • Prepare monthly work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reports, working with project managers on budgets and cost-to-complete forecasts.
  • Support the public tender and bid process with cost analysis, equipment rates, and overhead allocations.
  • Manage holdbacks receivable and payable, performance and labour bonds, and the financial reporting needed to maintain bonding capacity.
  • Oversee the financial management of a large fleet of heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers, including equipment loans, capital leases, and lease-versus-buy analysis.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and capital cost allowance and amortization schedules, and track equipment purchases and disposals.
  • Develop and monitor internal equipment costing and charge-out rates, including fuel, repairs, maintenance, and parts.
  • Account for aggregate pit operations, including inventory of gravel, shale, and fill, product sales, and depletion.
  • Track the profitability of distinct revenue streams, such as site work, tenders, small jobs, material sales, and seasonal snow removal.
  • Track costs and margins on new home builds, including land, lot development, construction draws, and home sale closings.

Company-Wide Finance & Accounting

  • Lead month-end and year-end close for both companies and produce accurate, timely financial statements.
  • Prepare budgets, forecasts, and rolling cash flow projections, with close attention to debt servicing on equipment and property financing.
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, payroll, and corporate credit card reconciliations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate HST filings, payroll source deductions, WCB, and corporate tax compliance.
  • Work with external accountants on year-end financial statements and corporate tax returns.

Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a controller or senior finance role.
  • Construction industry experience strongly preferred; residential home building or development experience is a significant asset.

  • Experience managing finances for multiple entities and handling intercompany accounting.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
