Reporting to the Executive Director, the Policy and Research Officer will strengthen FPEIM’s research and policy capacity. Your work will provide the evidence and analysis needed to support advocacy, government relations, Board decisions and resources for member municipalities.
You will explore issues such as municipal governance, infrastructure, housing, planning, finance and climate adaptation, working closely with colleagues and municipal stakeholders to understand their implications for PEI communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Research municipal policy issues, compare approaches across jurisdictions, and assess options, risks and impacts on member municipalities.
- Monitor legislative, regulatory, funding and policy developments affecting municipalities.
- Prepare issue briefs, background papers, briefing notes, Board materials and policy recommendations.
- Draft consultation responses, government submissions and policy letters for Executive Director review.
- Support government meeting preparation through research, supporting evidence and proposed advocacy positions.
- Gather and analyze member input through surveys, consultations and issue-based outreach.
- Develop practical municipal policy resources and contribute research to public education and communications materials.
- Work with colleagues to identify policy implications of programs, financial information and member inquiries.
Qualifications
- A university degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Political Science, Economics, Planning or a related discipline.
- Considerable experience in policy research, legislative review, jurisdictional comparisons, consultation analysis, briefing notes or advocacy support.
- Strong analytical and writing skills, including the ability to explain complex issues in plain language.
- Strong skills in research, synthesizing information, spreadsheets and data analysis, presentations and document management.
Knowledge of municipal government, public policy, governance, infrastructure, housing, finance, planning or related municipal issues is an asset. Experience working with Boards, member organizations, governments, public consultations or non-profit associations is also an asset.
