Job Description:

Reporting to the Chief Risk Officer, you will assess and monitor risk within credit unions, support their regulatory compliance, evaluate their governance and internal controls, and contribute to credit union oversight. You will provide analysis and advice to management and work with credit unions, regulators, auditors and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support CUDIC’s enterprise risk management framework and risk appetite statements for credit union oversight; conduct credit union risk assessments, monitor emerging risks and recommend mitigation measures.
  • Review and assess retail and commercial credit risk within credit unions, including lending practices, credit portfolio quality and risk concentrations; recommend mitigation measures and escalate material concerns to the Chief Risk Officer.
  • Support CUDIC’s compliance management framework for credit union oversight, monitor legislative and regulatory changes, assess credit unions’ adherence to applicable requirements, and develop policies, procedures and controls.
  • Conduct or coordinate compliance reviews of credit unions, evaluate their governance and internal controls, support regulatory reporting, and track audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Analyze credit union information and contribute to assigned reviews, examinations and risk-based oversight under the direction of the Chief Risk Officer.
  • Prepare and present reports, dashboards, briefing notes and recommendations for management, the Board, committees and regulators.
  • Contribute to stress testing, business continuity and operational resilience planning for credit unions, and provide guidance on risk and compliance obligations.

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Law, Public Administration, Risk Management or a related discipline.
  • Extensive progressively responsible experience in risk management, compliance, audit, financial services regulation, prudential supervision, financial institution oversight or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing risk management frameworks and compliance programs, conducting risk assessments, evaluating internal controls, and preparing reports and recommendations.
  • Knowledge of enterprise risk management, regulatory compliance, governance, internal controls and audit methodologies.
  • Strong analytical skills, sound professional judgment, clear communication, effective relationship-building skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Integrity, discretion and a commitment to confidentiality and professional accountability.

Experience with credit unions, financial institutions, insurers, regulators, deposit insurers or Crown corporations is highly desirable. A master’s degree or relevant professional designation, such as CRMP, FRM, CPA, CFA or CIA, is an asset.
