Job Description:

Company Overview
HAP (Hopeful Authentic Pathways): Healing Through Connection is an innovative practice based on PEI. We provide flexible, non-clinical, and barrier-free mobile mental health and wellness support across the Island. Our unique model integrates Peer Mentoring with professionally facilitated Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA) to meet clients exactly where they areโ€”in their homes, community centres, or nature. HAP operates on the core values of Authenticity, Empathy, Respect, Connection, Hope, and Safety.

Why Your Authenticity Matters
We are not looking for clinical certificates or detached textbook answers. We are looking for you.
In this role, your greatest asset is your own story. We need someone who has walked through their own mental health challenges, navigated addiction recovery, or found their way back after transitioning out of an institution.
Why do we need this? Because our clientsโ€”especially underserved men and those rebuilding their livesโ€”can spot a lack of empathy from a mile away. Your real, lived experience breaks down walls that traditional office therapy cannot touch. By being open and authentic about your own journey, you show our clients that they are not alone, that their feelings are valid, and that hope is real. You will be a living example that recovery is a day-by-day reality, not just a concept.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Direct Client Service: Deliver 1:1 peer mentoring, practical life skills support, and facilitate 12-week reintegration peer-led circles.
  • Mobile Delivery: Operate and travel to conduct sessions in client-preferred settings across PEI to eliminate accessibility barriers.
  • Reintegration Support: Assist individuals discharged from institutions or treatment facilities with structured transition planning, and local community resource navigation.
  • Documentation: Maintain secure session notes and basic client progress metrics using our secure Canadian-hosted cloud Practice Management Software.
  • Animal Interaction: Work gently alongside our trained, temperament-assessed therapy animals during Animal-Assisted Activities (AAA) to support emotional regulation and connection.
  • Ethical Practice: Protect client safety, confidentiality and fulfill the mandatory professional Duty to Report under PEIโ€™s Child and Adult Protection Acts.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • True Lived Experience: A stable, healthy relationship with your own personal journey of recovery or mental health system navigation.
  • Licence & Vehicle: Must possess a valid driverโ€™s licence, a reliable personal vehicle to support our Island-wide outreach, and hold $2 million in liability insurance.
  • Screening: A valid Vulnerable Sector Check is mandatory prior to commencement of contract.
  • Heart for Learning: If you do not have a formal peer certification yet, that is completely okay. We ask that you commit to earning your certification within your first year with us as a Condition of Employment (COE), so we can grow together.
  • Comfort with Animals: Willingness to work directly with and help manage our gentle therapy animals during active client sessions.
  • Flexibility: Ability to work within our core mobile service delivery window (10:00 AM โ€“ 7:00 PM, Monday to Friday).

We use a thoughtful, multi-step application process to get to know the real you:
