Job Description:

Camp Gencheff is looking for a positive minded, energetic individual to join our team as a 1:1 support worker for children.  5 positions are available currently.
The position is to help support children during the afterschool program from 2:30-5:30 as well as full time for the summer day camps Monday to Friday.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Individualized Support

  • Provide one-to-one support tailored to the child’s specific needs and goals
  • Implement individualized care and support plans to promote independence and development
  • Assist with daily routines, transitions, and participation in activities

2. Communication Support 

  • Support the child’s communication using AAC or other forms of communication.

3. Emotional Regulation & Behaviour Support

  • Implement co-regulation and self-regulation strategies (e.g., sensory breaks, visual supports, calming techniques)
  • Use positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies to respond to distress
  • Recognize that behaviour is a form of communication and respond accordingly
  • Support the child in developing coping skills and emotional awareness

4. Social & Developmental Support

  • Facilitate development of social, play, and life skills
  • Support engagement in structured and unstructured activities
  • Encourage choice-making, independence, and confidence

5. Safety & Wellbeing

  • Ensure the child’s safety and wellbeing at all times
  • Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and risk management procedures
  • Support with personal care if required

Qualifications:

  • Up to date Criminal record and Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Experience working with individuals who are neurodivergent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Post secondary student or graduate  from a post secondary institution in a related field and/or, a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience with IBI/IEP, AAC an asset
