Job Statement

Reporting to the Program Coordinator, SEAM, Develop West Prince, the SEAM Wellness Mentor provides dedicated mentorship, support, and guidance to participants at each individual program site (Alberton or Oโ€™Leary). The Wellness Mentor will work with the Program Facilitator and Program Coordinator to generate program content, content calendar, plan learning, mentorship, and community engagement activities, among other tasks as directed by the Program Coordinator.

The incumbent will be tasked with other activities as required for the successful completion of the initiative.

Essential Functions

  • Work collaboratively with the other staff members on the design and creation of the program workplan.
  • Work with community stakeholders to identify potential participants in the program.
  • Contribute and participate in participant interviews.
  • Work with project team to select participants in alignment with the participant selection criteria.
  • Take part in the equivalent of one week of employee training.
  • Tour site and identify potential safety or other education al hazards. Reduce potential risk.
  • Work with other staff to develop cell phone use, social media, and other โ€œworkplaceโ€ related policies for staff and participants.
  • Contribute to the creation of the participant orientation package.
  • Contribute to the creation of a contract between the program and participants. Contribute to the creation of a program code of conduct.
  • Understand, identify, and plan for needed safety equipment as needed for enrichment and placement activities.
  • Provide additional support to the SEAM participants and staff.
  • Discuss mental health and mental health awareness.
  • Discuss various stressors in participantโ€™s lives and provide information and assistance in overcoming these challenges.
  • Responsible for working with participants on matters of mental health and wellness. Identify and work with participants as challenges arise to create a safe and healthy environment for everyone.
  • Work with participants to address some of the pre-existing/acknowledged barriers faced by participants.
  • Research and deliver workshops/activities that promote mental health awareness and healthy living.
  • Based on identified barriers, create program materials and activities that would work to address these barriers.
  • Create an environment of respect and confidentiality.
  • Work with participants and other staff to create activities that support participants in developing coping mechanisms for anxiety, depression, challenging social or family situations, etc.
  • Create a mental health emergency plan, guide, and kit in the event a situation develops regarding a participant and mental wellness. Present this to other staff.
  • Act as an additional supervisor to the participants and support transportation as required.
  • Record incidents of negative participant interaction, expressions of specific barriers or challenges, and notable participant behaviours (positive and negative) that reflects their personal growth and development in the program.
  • Work with all staff to prepare a weekly report on participant wellness and any incidents that have arisen over the course of the week and share this with the Program Supervisor.
  • Provide the youth a connection to support or refer them to other service providers as required.
  • Contribute to the final report at program close.
  • Create a binder with helpful information, resources, activities, or plans to help future participants and Support Mentors.
  • Other duties related to the successful implementation of the program as directed by the Program Coordinator.

Job Specifications

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Post-secondary education in the field of child and youth care, human services, administration, education, or other related fields.
  • Professional work experience in youth training, teaching, or other youth centred programming.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Previous work or educational experience in youth training, teaching, or other youth centred programming.
  • Leadership/management skills.
  • Comfortable working with youth from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Approachable, social, and people oriented.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • An orientation to life-long learning and patience to work with those on their own learning journey.
  • Ability to work as a team with remote/hybrid supervision.
  • Hold a valid Class 5 Driverโ€™s License. Ability to drive personal vehicle to attend off-site meetings.
  • A willingness to work flexible hours based on seasonal and event needs.

Work Environment

This position will begin at the Holland College West Prince Campus (Alberton) for the first four weeks to conduct program planning. After this period, one SEAM Wellness Mentor will continue working in Alberton and one will transition to Oโ€™Leary for 7 weeks of program implementation. All staff will return to Alberton for the final week of the contract.

Compensation

The hourly salary of this position will be $19.50 plus vacation pay. Position is 37.5 hours weekly.

Contract Period

The position is expected to start June 1, 2026 for a duration of 12 weeks ending August 21, 2026.

Position Dependent on Funding Approval
