Job Summary:
The Special Needs Assistant supports children with additional needs to ensure their full participation in daily activities within the classroom setting. Working under the direction of the Centre Director and/or Lead Educator, the assistant helps implement individualized support plans and promotes a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to children with special or additional needs
- Assist in implementing individualized program plans (IPPs) or support strategies
- Support children with daily routines, including transitions, meals, toileting, and outdoor play
- Encourage social, emotional, and communication development
- Help adapt activities and materials to meet individual needs
- Maintain confidentiality regarding children and families
- Collaborate with educators, families, and outside professionals as required
- Ensure the health and safety of all children in accordance with centre policies and licensing regulations
Qualifications:
- Experience working with children, particularly those with additional needs, is preferred
- Education in Early Childhood Education, Educational Assistant, or related field is an asset
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- Clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check
