JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the General Manager, the Corporate Controller will be accountable for the integrity of financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow management, the day-to-day leadership of the finance team to support the organizationโ€™s long-term business planning.

ย This position requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial regulations, and business operations, with a demonstrated commitment to maintaining the financial and ethical integrity of the organization. The Corporate Controller will ensure financial reporting is prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and will maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and Canadian laws. Our Controller should be a strategic thinker who can translate financial data into actionable insights, drive operational efficiency, and strengthen internal controls and financial processes.

JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

Job Accountabilities outline the responsibilities that an individual has for tasks, projects, and initiatives that they are assigned or involved in. In general, it focuses on being accountable for oneโ€™s actions, decisions, and performance, both in terms of achieving objectives and adhering to agreed-upon standards, guidelines, and expectations.

General

  • Providing day to day support and guidance to the finance team
  • Managing financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, ensuring and preparing accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Oversee cash and banking activity, including daily bank monitoring, cheque signing, etc.
  • Collaborating with the executive team to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and operational KPIs; analyze financial performance and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Providing year-end financial information to external accountants, to manage year end costs and achieve deliverables.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls and ensure finance processes are documented and consistently applied.
  • Oversee accounts receivable and collections, ensuring accurate reporting and timely follow-up, identifying and then implementing improvements to financial processes and systems to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Provide payroll oversight, including processing and reviewing management and staff payrolls.
  • Support governance requirements, including attending board meetings and maintaining board minutes.
  • Ensuring compliance with all federal and provincial tax laws and regulations while working with external accountants on any complex tax issues.
  • Foster positive employee relations within the team through annual performance reviews and handling staff concerns appropriately and effectively.
  • Provide oversight for company IT (hardware/software/service vendors), ensuring continuity and appropriate access governance.

Employee Relations/Team Engagement

  • Provide leadership to the Finance Team by offering training, coaching/mentoring, guidance, to support their personal development.
  • Identify challenges/problems and make quick decisions to resolve issues – resulting in errors identified prior to final financial reports being generated.
  • Develop and foster relationships with other departments encouraging continuous improvement through effective teamwork.
  • Effectively communicate expectations to employees with an emphasis on developing a high-performance finance team.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources assist in staff recruitment of new team members, including ensuring an effective and engaging onboarding process.
  • Foster an environment of open communications/interactions with all team members and other departments.
  • Performance Management: Identify team development opportunities, set realistic development plans, and provide opportunities for growth.

Learning & Development

  • Actively participate in training provided to support personal development.
  • Identify personal professional training needs and opportunities for skill enhancement.
  • Foster a continuous improvement culture with a commitment to excellence – teamwork, finance practices, etc. โ€“ with an overall focus on accurate, timely reporting.
  • Provide guidance and support to employees in setting and achieving their own professional goals.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices and share relevant information with team for teamsโ€™ overall development.

Education & Training

  • Bachelorโ€™s Business Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation. 5+ years post CPA designation experience preferred although equivalencies will be considered.
  • 3โ€“7 years of experience managing people and processes within a team environment.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office: Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Advanced Excel skills preferred

Other Requirements

  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Security Clearance Certificate (criminal record check)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial regulations, GAAP, and tax laws in Canada.
  • Commitment to being organized, with strong logistical and planning skills.
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution in a dynamic environment.

Our client offers a very competitive compensation package, which includes a comprehensive benefits program, paid time off, savings options, and professional development support. Annual Salary will be based on qualifications – starting at 80,000.
