Job Description:
The Family Program Worker supports CHANCES family resource programs with both children and caregivers in attendance.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Child Development Programs: Establishing and maintaining a child centered learning environment and routine that provides each individual child with appropriate social, emotional, physical and cognitive development opportunities; Building a relationship of trust, mutual respect and care for parents and children; Developing daily activities that meet the specific developmental needs of the children; Preparing the environment for daily activities; Caring for children and supporting them while they are in our care; Using redirection and positive guidance to assist children in understanding and verbally expressing their emotions as an alternative to physical aggression; Monitoring and observing the progress of children to assist in moulding programs to meet their needs; Providing the children with opportunities for social interactions within the context of play-based learning; Modelling a safe, secure and creative learning environment for parents and children.
Supporting Parents: Respecting parent’s values and attitudes re parenting; Communicating openly and effectively with parents; Exchanging information with parents and supporting them on behalf of their child; Interacting with parents in a positive way; Encouraging parents to express their goals and desires for their children; Involving parents in all aspects of the program; Introducing new parents to the program; Setting up one-on-one meetings with families referred to CHANCES by outside organizations; Facilitate parenting and child-focused programs in a way that is strength-based and trauma-informed; Build and maintain professional working relationships with community resources and service providers.
Staff Support: Contribute to a supportive team environment by utilizing the appropriate lines of communication to solve issues and challenges.
Date Collection: Collect and compile program data as required to support ongoing evaluations and program monitoring.
Qualifications:
- 2 Years post-secondary diploma in a related field such as Human Services, Child and Youth Care Worker, ECE, or relevant work experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Strong skills in organization, time management, problem solving, interpersonal communication, and clear understanding of confidentiality
- Experience with word processing programs
- Positive prior work attendance record
- Acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector check; CPR & First Aid certification as well as Food Safety certification
This is a temporary position until March 31, 2026 with the possibility of an extension.
