STEAM PEI is a non-profit organization, located at 149 Mount Edward Road, Suite 102, Charlottetown, PEI, C1A 5T1, whose mission is to inspire young Islanders to pursue learning and careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and math by fostering curiosity and confidence through engaging experiential learning opportunities. THE OPPORTUNITY:

STEAM PEI is looking for a Cybertitans Facilitator to train students ages 11–17 on how to secure computer operating systems from external threats such as malicious hackers and malware. The successful candidate will prepare a team of 15–20 students to compete in the Cyberpatriots/Cybertitans international competition running from October 1, 2025 to January 20, 2026.

This role will begin by September 25, 2025, to allow for preparation and the first session on September 27, 2025. Student training requires approximately 4 hours per week, plus preparation and coordination duties.

It will also be your responsibility to:

  • Register each participating student for the Cyberpatriots/Cybertitans competition by September 27, 2025.
  • Coordinate competition funding with the PEI IT Alliance by September 27, 2025.
  • Coordinate specialist guest speakers.
  • Maintain high ethical standards and respectful, secure communication among students, instructors, and the public both in person and online.
  • From time to time, assist with larger STEAM PEI events or provide support if scheduling changes arise (on an as-needed basis).

Compensation is $20/hour. Hours are part-time, averaging 4–6 hours per week, with flexibility to accommodate competition preparation and events.

THE SKILLS:

Essential Skills:

  • Experience navigating Windows Control Panel.
  • Experience navigating the Linux Command Line.
  • Knowledge of firewall navigation in Server 2022.
  • Understanding of Mint 21 and Ubuntu security controls.
  • Experience working with students in competitive and learning environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both formal and informal settings.

Preferred Skills:

  • Cyberpatriot/Cybertitan competition experience.
  • Experience communicating with local media (radio, print, television, social media) to promote programming and competition outcomes.
  • Additional expectations:
  • Ability to work independently, from our Charlottetown base or on the go, and in collaboration with the STEAM Team.
  • A reliable vehicle and valid driver’s license are required.
  • Clean criminal record check and First Aid certification are mandatory.
