Position Summary
The Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources management, policy development, and organizational health and safety. The Director supports the organization’s mission by leading recruitment and retention strategies, workforce planning, compliance, and employee engagement initiatives. This role also guides the development and maintenance of CHANCES’ Employee Handbook and ensures alignment with current legislation and best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Human Resources Leadership
• Oversee the development and implementation of recruitment plans in collaboration with program coordinators.
• Manage the full-cycle recruitment process including posting, screening, interviewing, onboarding, and offboarding.
• Supervise HR functions such as job description management, internal HR inquiries, and day-to-day transactional duties.
• Lead employee relations and serve as a confidential resource and liaison between staff and leadership.
• Monitor HR metrics and trends to advise leadership on staffing needs and emerging workforce issues.
2. Organizational Development
• Expand and update the Employee Handbook and support the creation and revision of HR-related policies.
• Lead retention and recognition strategies, including programs for staff appreciation and career development.
• Explore and implement recruitment strategies, including job fairs, external partnerships (e.g., Holland College), and wage/employment program utilization.
• Develop and deliver training and development plans to enhance employee skills and engagement.
• Guide the performance review and compensation review processes to ensure transparency and equity.
3. Compliance and Occupational Health & Safety
• Oversee workplace health and safety compliance in accordance with legislative requirements.
• Provide advice and direction on employment legislation, human rights, and labor relations.
• Ensure the organization remains current with HR legal and policy requirements.
• Support leadership in managing sensitive workplace issues with discretion and professionalism.
Qualifications
• Degree or diploma in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a senior HR role.
• Proven experience managing people, including direct supervision of staff, and providing leadership across a diverse team or organization.
Skills & Abilities
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with HR software systems and recruitment platforms.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities.
• Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, and sound judgment.
• Proven ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities
